What Inspires My Design

My designs are shaped by more than form and function—they are guided by the living essence of the whenua. I draw inspiration from the quiet language of nature: the flow of water, the resilience of native trees, the rhythm of seasons, and the spaces where people and place meet in harmony.

Nature as Teacher

The ocean, forests, and mountains remind me that design must always respect balance and flow. Every landscape has its own wisdom.

02

Cultural Threads

Kaitiakitanga (guardianship) and whakapapa (connection) inspire me to design with respect for land, ancestors, and future generations.

Design Icons

I find resonance in the bold geometry of Roberto Burle Marx, the soulful simplicity of Luis Barragán, and the timeless patterns of indigenous design.
I am also deeply inspired by the teachings of Shunmyō Masuno, a Zen master and garden designer, whose work reveals how stillness, emptiness, and mindful intention can transform space into sanctuary. Their collective wisdom reminds me to honour both art and ecology in my practice.

Personal Connection

Moments of stillness in my garden, the laughter of my son, or the way light dances across water—these experiences feed my creativity and remind me that design is ultimately about people finding belonging within nature.

Inspiration is everywhere.

When we listen deeply to the land and to ourselves, design becomes a bridge between people and place, spirit and sanctuary.
